Your Instructors
David
A. Standen is the founder and master instructor of COP Tactics Training
Systems. Officer Standen is a Police Officer for the City of Springfield (MA)
Police Department and has been a Police Officer for twenty-nine years. He has
worked with the DEA Task Force and has worked at the Police Academy where he was
the primary Defensive Tactics Instructor and was the Senior Staff Instructor
charged with the day-to-day operation of the Springfield Police Recruit Academy.
He has been an instructor in the areas of Use of Force, Defensive Tactics,
Patrol Procedures and Firearms for twenty-seven years. He is the Defensive
Tactics Coordinator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Municipal Police
Training Committee and is responsible for the certification and re-certification
of the 500+ Sefensive tactics Instructors across the commonwealth. He has
written the state certified Defensive Tactics and Use of Force Instructor
manual. He created and implemented an instructor development segment for all of
the DT-related training programs taught by the MPTC. He has
written numerous police-related articles as well as the Defensive Tactics
Newsletter. He has also written the Pepper Spray Arrest Tactics (PSAT) Training
Program for COP Tactics. He is a member of the International Law
Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA). He was the Regional
Director for the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers (ASLET). He is a
frequent presenter at numerous national conferences and seminars and has
conducted COP Tactics classes throughout the United States. He is a
Monadnock International Instructor and was appointed to the Monadnock Training
Council Advisory Board in 2005. Officer Standen is a Black Belt in
Isshin Ryu Karate. He is also the co-author of two highly reviewed
books; Vehicle Stops: Safety Strategies and Tactical Procedures
and Terry Stops: Legal Perspectives and Tactical Procedures.
Russell
Stutely is a Master Instructor for COP Tactics.
Russell started studying Martial Arts at the age of 8. After a few years away
from the arts, Russell came back to the arts at age 18 and has been continuously
training and learning ever since. He has devoted his life to the pursuit of
excellence within Martial Arts and Self-Defense. Russell has traveled
extensively training with some of the very best trainers in the World. He earned
their respect by training alongside them and learning their art to a level where
he is regarded as a “Coach” in each those systems. Russell has blended this
knowledge and expertise into one complete system that has been ratified and
acknowledged by ALL of his Coaches in the various Arts. Russell
has extensive experience in the following disciplines:

Russell was the first Karateka to
be graded within the Dai Nippon Butokukai Kyoto, the Worlds oldest Dojo. They
had previously never graded anyone outside of Ju Jitsu. Russell was awarded his
2nd Dan. Over the last 12 years, Russell has trained extensively
in Boxing with former 3 Time Champ, Herol “Bomber” Graham.
Russell is most well known for his work in the proper application of Pressure
Points within the Martial Arts and Self-Defense community.
Russell is a regular columnist for Britain's most prestigious Martial Arts
magazines; Martial Arts Illustrated, Traditional Karate and Combat. He has had
Front Cover treatment twice as an individual and actually appeared on the Front
Cover of MAI 4 times in one year - equaling the feat of one Bruce Lee.
Russell's greatest ability is to teach this remarkably diverse and complicated
subject matter in a way that is easy to learn, easy to replicate and best of
all... easy to pass on to the next generation. Russell has succeeded where so
many others have failed... he has made an incredibly difficult subject,
extremely easy to understand.
