 David A Standen
David A. Standen has been a police officer for
twenty-nine years.
As a police officer with the Springfield (MA) Police
Department he has worked patrol, as a DEA Task Force Agent
and as the Senior Staff Instructor, primary Defensive
Tactics and Physical Fitness Instructor for Springfield
Recruit Police Academy. He has assisted in writing several
policies for the Springfield Police Department and was an
original member and trainer for the Tactical Response Unit.
For fifteen years, Standen worked as the Defensive
Coordinator for the Municipal Police Training Committee,
which is the State agency responsible for Police Training
and Standards for all municipal Police Departments in
Massachusetts. In that position, he has written the State’s
12 Module Defensive Tactics Program and Use of Force
Program. He has certified and re-certified hundreds of
instructors in Defensive Tactics, OC, Baton and Use of
Force.
Standen has been a Defensive Tactics Instructor for
twenty-seven years and has trained thousands of Police,
Corrections, Military and Civilian personnel in a number of
areas; including all aspects of Defensive Tactics, Use of
Force, Firearms, Patrol Procedures and Physical Fitness. He
is certified in numerous disciplines relating to Defensive
Tactics, Use of Force and Firearms and is a frequent
presenter at ASLET, ILEETA and Monadnock Seminars.
He is also the founder and master instructor for COP Tactics
Training Systems. Officers that have attended COP Tactics
classes say that they are the most realistic and “street”
worthy courses that they have ever attended. Standen has
trained hundreds of instructor across the country in
Defensive Tactics, Use of Force, Motor Vehicle Stops and
Instructor Development.
He has co-author of two books entitled Vehicle Stops: Safety
Strategies and Tactical Procedures and Terry Stops: Safety
Strategies and Tactical Procedures.
He became a
Monadnock International Instructor in 1994 and was appointed
to the Monadnock Training Council Advisory Board in 2005.
Officer Standen has a Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate.
